In Memoriam: Gerard Smith of TV On The Radio

(Photo: Hollywood Reporter)
As music fans have already heard, Gerard Smith, the bassist for Brooklyn’s alternative favorite TV On The Radio, passed away on April 20th, sadly losing his fight with lung cancer. In light of the devastating news, the band has cancelled five of their stops but will resume shortly after.

In recognition of Smith’s contribution to the band from 2005 onward, I have compiled a list of several great tunes performed live that really show the bandʻs best assets onstage. Their music is incredible; the sounds are crisp and inundated with ferocity by lead singer Tunde Adebimpeʻs unique voice. And every member, including Smith, presents his skills like natural born rock stars. Known as an art rock band mixing a few genres from post-punk to soul music, below are five reasons why you should be immersed in their aurora, if you are not yet acquainted with them.

Also be sure to pickup their latest album, Nine Types of Light available now.

“Wolf Like Me” from Return To Cookie Mountain

“Staring At The Sun” from Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes

“Blind” from Young Liars – EP

“Young Liars” from Young Liars – EP

“Poppy” from Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
