Four Questions: “With a little luck, we would like to do as much and get [out] as far as we can.”

This week “Four Questions” highlights Elonzo. Remember, if youʻd like to participate and have a question answered, follow us on Twitter or Facebook and ask us there. Weʻd be glad to hear from you!

Elonzo is a Southern band hailing from the great state of South Carolina. If you are wanting something new on your playlist, indulge in the lyrical fury that is Elonzo. They will be traveling regionally throughout the Carolinas, so be sure not to miss them!

This Coast: The band was named after Elonzo, yours and Maggie’s father. Was he himself an artist that influenced the band?

Elonzo: He wasn’t an artist, but he was a drummer. Our mom and our dad both played music some when we were growing up around the house. We had a piano and guitars, which is where I got the one I play most now, but mostly the name just kind of made sense when we started the band. Everything else just seemed kind of ridiculous, until Dan [the drummer] suggested Elonzo.

This Coast: If you could cover a song from an artist you greatly admire, what song would that be and why?

Elonzo: Over our time as a band, we have learned so many covers because in the early days, the regular gigs we could get were bar gigs where we were expected to play for three hours. I think my favorite so far [of well-known bands] is “Dead Flowers” by the Stones. My other favorite is a song called “Biloxi” by Redbirds. They were a band from Charleston SC, good friends of ours who have since disbanded. I recorded their “Valentines EP” at my old house with them, and once they disbanded decided I wanted to at least carry on that song. It’s one of my favorite songs that I have ever been a part of (at least in the recording). I think it’s a great song that people should hear.

This Coast: Are there any tours planned Westward?

Elonzo: We plan on touring the Southeast as we have been, and getting farther out, yes. We have been talking with some other SC bands about doing some dates together this summer. I think really, with a little luck, we would like to do as much and get as far [out] as we can.

This Coast: How long would it be until your next album?

Elonzo: We are currently writing for our next release. I actually just got back from rehearsal where we were working up three new songs. Not sure how long it will be, but so far we have release a record every year. I hope this next one will be sooner than that though.
