Malia Thornton
FOUNDER / EDITOR IN CHIEF

Malia is a writer and photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina. She came up with the idea for This Coast when she realized that it was incredibly thrilling to understand the artistic processes that a band, filmmaker, or writer went through when starting a new project. She wanted to document those processes in the forms of interviews, photographs, and analyses of albums, books, and films. She has been an avid music fan for years — her first show was The Geeks, a now-defunct local band from Puyallup, Washington.

She is a college student majoring in Biology with a minor in Professional Writing. Her work has appeared on Skirt.com and in Wake Living and Triad Living magazines. In her free time, she blogs at sight seen vintage, where she writes about vintage fashion, both authentic and inspired, and adds to her photography portfolio on tumblr.

James Stanford
EDITORIAL / SEATTLE CONTRIBUTOR

James loves to spend his time at festivals — music festivals, film festivals; he enjoys them all. Though he grew up in Puyallup, Wash., he now resides in Seattle. As a fan of the performing and visual arts, he enjoys writing about the newest bands to show up on the Pacific Northwestʻs radar and commenting on today’s pop culture. He plans to return to college to polish his writing skills.

One of his all time favorite movies — which was one of his earliest reviews written for his middle school newspaper —  is The Royal Tenenbaums.
